Kathmandu: The interim government headed by Prime Minister Sushila Karki has once again moved forward with the decision to recall Nepal’s ambassadors, even after the Supreme Court issued an interim order halting the process.

Supreme Court Had Blocked the Recall Decision

On Sunday, the Supreme Court issued an interim order instructing the government not to implement the ambassador recall decision, calling it an improper move by an interim administration.

Government Sends Fresh Letter Ignoring Court Order

Despite the court’s stay order, a letter was issued on Monday from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, directing recalled ambassadors to return to Nepal by Kartik 20 using their previously issued air tickets.

The letter was sent under the direction of Prime Minister Karki, who is also handling the Foreign Affairs portfolio.

11 Ambassadors Asked to Return

The government had earlier decided on Asoj 30 to recall 11 ambassadors posted in various countries. Those recalled include:

-Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli – China

-Dr. Shail Rupakheti – Germany

-Prof. Dhan Prasad Pandit – Israel

-Dr. Netra Prasad Timalsina – Malaysia

-Ramesh Chandra Poudel – Qatar

-Jung Bahadur Chauhan – Russia

-Naresh Bikram Dhakal – Saudi Arabia

-Sunil Nepal – Spain

-Chandra Kumar Ghimire – United Kingdom

-Lokdarshan Regmi – United States

-Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi – Japan

Legal and Political Controversy Deepens

The government’s decision to move ahead despite the court’s order is expected to spark further constitutional debate, especially regarding the authority of an interim government to make major appointments or dismissals in foreign service.
